The Chi Lambda Colony has finalized all spending and is on track to meet our financial goals for chartering. Our income for the 2008-2009 year primarily stems from our quarterly dues of $200, the lowest on campus. Brothers can opt to pay their dues in full or finance them. Financing entails a weekly payment plan that is approved and monitored by the Treasurer. We have found this system to be effective and also very attractive to potential new members.
As membership increases, the Chi Lambda Colony secures its own financial sustainability. Each quarter, committee chairmen submit their budget reports to the Treasurer and, after careful review, committee funds are issued accordingly. Our goal is to minimize expenditures so we can contribute more money towards chartering.
Financial Breakdown for Chartering
Summer Obligations
Our Colony has the lowest dues on campus. As a means of reaching our chartering expenses, we have decided to implement a summer fundraising program. Each brother (including the newly initiated pledge class) will be assigned to a group responsible for raising $200 per person. This gives the Colony the duration of the summer to fundraise or make a “Summer Donation” that will go straight towards our chartering festivities.
In addition, the Colony anticipates a contribution from the fall 2009 pledge class. Based on previous recruitment, roughly $1,500 will be invested into the chartering fund. A joint Delta-Epsilon Pledge Class fundraiser is also being planned for the spring 2009 quarter.
Accountability
In order to ensure appropriate spending, all expenditures must be approved by the Treasurer and Cabinet. Through this method, each brother retains a sense of financial responsibility. All expenditures are to be made known to the Colony in the Treasurer’s weekly report.
In the 2008-2009 school year, FIJI of UCSD has been striving to make $25,000 to fund the process of chartering. With the cheapest dues on campus and the slumping economy, this task has proven quite difficult. However, we have made substantial progress in amassing this large sum of money. Here is a list of our completed and planned fundraisers:

Aside from the planned fundraisers, all members are encouraged to raise money on their own. The Fundraising Committee meets once and sometimes twice a week to discuss ideas and report updates.
